Creating a 2004 School Plan – A Manual
Signing up as a Freedom’s Answer School
Freedom’s Answer is intended to be a high school program,
and all schools are welcome (including public, parochial, private
and home school). However no high school can be an official Freedom’s
Answer School unless it is signed up to be so on the Freedom's Answer
web site.
Any school may, of course, participate in the Freedom’s
Answer program even if it is not registered on the web site, but
it will not qualify for prizes and awards for its performance, it
will not be allowed to enter pledge results, and its voter pledge
totals will not count toward state and local totals. So it is important
for all schools to have as many schools in their state participate
– and have their voter pledge totals count toward the statewide
and national totals.
Any high school may sign up on the web site with the OK of the
principal. So we recommend the following steps:
- A student leader (or group) or a teacher show the principal
the web site – or materials downloaded from it (such as
the Summary Sheet, the
letter from Dr. Tirozzi of
the National Association of Secondary School Principals), the letter from
US Senate Republican Leader Frist and US House Democratic Leader
Pelosi, and the School
Coordinator’s Handbook. )
- Make sure the Principal knows about the 50-State
Challenge and the Mega-Prize
which will be distributed after the election.
- Ask the principal to assign a specific person (teacher, advisor
or student) as the Freedom’s Answer Coordinator for the
School.
- The Coordinator should to freedomsanswer.net and register
the school.
- If your principal is reluctant to give you the go-ahead, recruit
more allies to help convince him/her – more students, more
teachers, more advisors, parents, community leaders and organizations
(League of Women Voters, American Legion, American Bar Association,
etc.)
- If the principal says that it has to be approved by the local
superintendent of education, organize a group of students, teachers,
parents and community leaders to present the program to the Superintendent
for both an OK and a solid endorsement for all schools.
