The 2004 Action Plan

2004 Goals

A national Freedom’s Answer Summit in January of 2004 established the following 8 goals for the 2004 Election Year.

  • As many high schools participating as possible (2500 took part in 2002)
  • Being sure all 18 year-olds in those schools are registered to vote
  • 2.5 million students in those schools each collecting ten voting pledges
  • Sending an Election Eve reminder to all who pledged to vote
  • Freedom’s Answer Students serving as official poll workers wherever they are welcome and the law allows
  • Freedom’s Answer Students outside the polls on election Day to thank every voter for voting
  • Setting a new all-time voter turnout record for America

The tools to get it done

Here are links to documents to enable every Freedom’s Answer School to help meet the goals:

1) School Coordinator’s Handbook

2) Create a 2004 School Plan
This manual is designed to help the Freedom's Answer School Coordinator achieve maximum results. Included are descriptions of how to do the following:

Building a Leadership Team at the school
Taking Freedom’s Answer school-wide
Hold a 9/11 Ceremony as a Freedom’s Answer kick-off

Be creative in collecting voter pledges
Each school’s Pledge Counter reports results every day
Send all who pledge to vote a reminder on Election Eve
Provide students as official poll workers on Election Day

Get help from supportive community organizations
Help sign up more Freedom’s Answer Schools

3) Take Ten Pledge Form

4) Introductory Card:

5) You can  print flyers, purchase campaign signs and post to social media networks like Facebook as tools to announce your participation with getting the student vote out.

Why Use Campaign Signs

Why use campaign signs? Because they work to help you get noticed, but only when you use them effectively - even for such simple tasks as voter registration campaigns.

Get Noticed, Use Campaign Signs Right

When you want to add power to your campaign, you need to get the word out.  With campaign signs, you can make sure your name is the first one in people’s minds when they head to the voting booths.  While TV ads and other advertisements are helpful too, those only reach a limited audience.  When you post campaign signs, you can make sure everyone on the streets and in certain buildings know you are running for office.

If you have a time sensitive event, be sure to clean up your signs after the time frame passes. No one likes to see, "Vote for Nixon" signs a few decades after the vote is over.
